LAPSUS$ strikes again, this time the victim is Ubisoft
A few days ago we talked about the group of cybercriminals LAPSUS$, they would have hacked several companies, including Nvidia and Samsung. This group does not stop and this time we have a new company that has fallen into the hands of these cybercriminals, Ubisoft.
Ubisoft, the new victim of LAPSUS$
Ubisoft is probably the largest video game publisher in Europe. Under his banner are great games like Far Cry, Watch Dogs, Assasins Creed, and many more. During the past week, the company was the victim of a cyberattack.
During this attack, the company was forced to suspend some services and games, so users were directly affected. In a statement, the company has admitted that its security was violated.
Ubisoft quickly managed to resolve the security breach, so further damage could be prevented. In the attack, no information that compromises the company's customers and users were stolen, so there is nothing to worry about.
Ubisoft's servers are working properly and have also announced that they are implementing extra security measures to prevent this from happening again. Despite this announcement, the company has not held any group directly responsible.
For its part, LAPSUS$ made a publication on Telegram in which they claim responsibility for the attack on Ubisoft. In this statement, the group has said that the attack was not aimed at extracting information about the company's users. However, this does not mean that they have not obtained valuable information from the company.
In fact, after claiming responsibility for the attack, the group leaked a large amount of information that they had stolen from the company.
The Samsung experience
As we had announced last week, LAPSUS$ had given Samsung until the weekend to publish the data they had obtained from their servers.
As expected, all this data was leaked on the network and some were extremely important to the company. A large number of source codes were leaked and are now in the hands of the entire world.
So far, it is unknown if the criminal group contacted the company to request money in exchange for not leaking the information. The fact is that they have done it and now this can have consequences for users since the source codes of the devices have been made public.
The attacks won't stop
Ubisoft has been the most recent, but it is unlikely to be the last. This group of hackers is more active than ever, in addition, with the recent successful attacks they have had, they have gained more strength.
It is not known whether technology companies are beefing up their security systems. However, if one thing is clear, it is that the attacks will continue.
