Deadly attack in Norway leaves 5 dead and 2 injured
Investigations point to a terrorist attack
The events occurred southwest of Oslo, in the city of Kongsberg. The incident occurred when the man converted to Islam and radicalized to his faith, decided to attack people with a bow and arrow.
The fatalities were four women and one man; between 50 and 70 years.
According to the investigation carried out by the southwestern district police, it was known that this event could be part of a terrorist attack; however it is not confirmed.
On the same Wednesday, the police arrested a 37-year-old Danish man, who was listed as one of the main suspects; his identity was revealed this Thursday; It is about: Espen Andersen Bråthen.
Ongoing investigations
The investigation is in a first phase, and according to security agencies it is difficult to know the reasons for the attack.
In addition, the southwestern district police have specified that the man acted alone, and was on the authorities' radar for posing the danger of radicalization.
Apparently, Andersen had also had violent acts with his family, for which they had a restraining order.
The attack started before
The attack began hours earlier at a Coop Extra supermarket, which is west of Kongsberg.
This was announced by a spokesman for the supermarket chain, who spoke about a serious incident at his store, noting that none of the employees were injured.
According to a press conference, it became known that the police had received several reports of a man moving with a bow and arrows, attempting to threaten.
The man was arrested at 6:47 p.m. local time, 34 minutes after the attack began.
Once the incident was known, the Norwegian authorities urged the country to stay home and ordered all officers to carry firearms.
Norway, despite being one of the safest nations in Europe; in recent years it has suffered extremist attacks that have claimed the lives of many people.
